Whilst the theatre is dark….
Over the summer months the Adelphi theatre has been a flood of activity. With the theatre empty between productions, Really Useful Theatre’s works department and outside contractors have worked night and day to ensure the theatre is up to scratch for the Kinky Boots premieres in August; making many exciting changes along the way.
The stalls of the auditorium were treated to a new royal red carpet; involving the removal, reinstatement and reinstall of every single seat!
The foyer was completely transformed with a redesign by Lee Fitzgerald Architects. Walls were knocked down and rebuilt further back resulting in increased floor space helping to provide a smoother income for our patrons and room for a new art deco style bar spanning the left side of the foyer space.
Unplanned redecorations to the Jessie Matthews bar also took place during the dark period. After flooding devastated the basement bar it was decided to take this opportunity to give the bar a revamp as part of the clean-up operation. Again the layout of the bar was redesigned however still in keeping with the original art deco décor, to reveal a bigger area for use of private events and increased audience interval space.
All projects were completed within the strict deadlines in time for the opening of Kinky Boots.
