Her Majesty's Theatre
Picture Perfect
As part of the theatres regular upkeep areas of the theatre are redecorated on a rota, during 2014 Her Majesty’s theatre’s grand front of house area received a full revamped. The elegant staircases which leads up to the Royal Circle bar were refurbished and repainted, and the lighting on the staircases was improved to help light the many art works featured on the walls.
The paintings themselves had to be removed out of hours to avoid disruption to the Phantom of the Opera performances and audiences. After being sent to Simon G Studios to be cleaned, the frames and canvases were returned and rehung; frames freshly painted and layers of road pollution from Haymarket and cigar smoke from the days of indoor smoking removed from the paintings.
Within the same year the theatres Stall bars received the same treatment with replacement of the gold leaf and artworks restored.
